Our Commitment to B.C.

 

As a subsidiary of BC Hydro, we work closely with BC Hydro to maximise the value of Hydro’s electric system for the benefit of all BC Hydro customers. Powerex trade activities enhance BC Hydro’s energy reliability and help keep domestic electricity rates low.

In fact, British Columbians enjoy some of the lowest electricity rates in North America thanks, in part, to Powerex’s energy marketing and trading activities.  All the income generated through Powerex’s trade activities goes back to the people of British Columbia. This is ensured by the “Heritage Contract” between BC Hydro and the B.C. government.  

Under this agreement, all Powerex trade income below $200 million goes to helping to keep B.C.’s electricity costs low. Trade income above $200 million goes to our shareholder, the B.C. government.  

We are also working to further the development of clean, renewable energy both within B.C. and in markets across North America.  

In these ways, all British Columbians benefit from Powerex’ energy trade and marketing activities.
